| Ottawa's LGBTQ+ theatre company, TotoToo, are mounting a production of another cult musical, namely Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show (which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year). It features an incredible cast of local performers. It's based on the original stage adaptation and is being presented at the Gladstone Theatre, in concert with Rocky Horror's 50th anniversary.
Ian McLoed states that, "As a piece of queer canon in many ways this is a show that has a pretty special place in the "original stories" of a lot of our cast members, including our amazing Frank 'N' Furter, Jarrett Wilfred, who is a luminous, non-binary performer. For some of us Rocky screenings were the first noticeably queer space we participated in as young queer folk, and our fabulous director, Stefania Wheelhouse, is doing an amazing job guiding the cast in bringing the bawdy, joyful, messy energy of that experience to the audience of this production. We're working hard to honour the spirit of the original, Tim Curry led cast, while putting our own spin on it for 2025." The show runs from Oct. 23 to Nov. 1 at the Gladstone, including a late night Halloween show, in keeping with the longstanding tradition of RHPS midnight screenings.
