The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic, experimental, pop, rock, grunge, whatever the heck they wanna be band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After releasing eps and experimental musical soundscapes in the 1980s they signed to Warner Brothers in 1991. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is the tenth studio album by The Flaming Lips and was released on July 16, 2002, by Warner Bros. Records. The album was well-received critically and commercially, helping the band break into popularity, and was even adapted into a musical in 2012 Yoshimi’s release ensured the Lips position as “one of the leading lights of 21st century rock”. The album became the first gold-certified album and remains arguably the Flaming lips most iconic album. Singer/guitarist Ryan Neeb and guitarist Derek Evers of Ottawa's Live Like Skyscrapers have just released their debut album At Dawn We Said Goodnight. The album is a mix of lush instrumentation that according to the band lives somewhere “between Folk, Americana and Indie Rock” all the while “delivering undertones of hope and )//optimism
