Songs For The Revolution
Tuesday October 18th, 2022 with Christophe Elie
Grassy Narrows - The Great Fire - Folk Supergroup

Is it a time to be picking sides? This week, we've got music from the N'we Jinan Artists to start, the Minneapolis classical folk group "Sprig of That" and local folk historian Paul Weber has a new album he's releasing, he'll be at the Red Bird this weekend for his CD release. And Ani Defranco, Bruce Coburn and a few other folk legends joined forces to record an old folk tune "Who's side are you on" I love the performance of this song, and I see the importance of acknowledging democracy is under threat, but does this further divide us? Locally, we've got a song by a youth rap artist with a message regarding the upcoming election.

The problem is, we are already divided. Politics are polarized like never before, and you cannot reason with those on the far right. They have no interest in the truth, facts, science. So yes, it is a time when we need to choose a side.

I hear you Bob, but I do think we need to leave room in between for a bridge, because as you point out, many people are divided. This always reminds me of George Bush's statement, "you're either with us or against us" and how that statement is very damaging. Thanks for commenting Bob!
