CKCU’s annual funding drive for 2025 has been extended through this week, just as CKCU celebrates 50 years of broadcasting on air – an incredible milestone for independent, listener-supported media in a day and age when independent, community-oriented media with programming curated, produced and hosted by a dedicated corps of volunteers, often experts in our fields, is harder and harder to come by. It's only at a station like CKCU that someone like me, with the support of listeners like you, can curate and host a show like Stranger Songs. Your support is much needed and much appreciated.

Please click on "DONATE" to support Stranger Songs and CKCU.

At the begining of the show I thanked the following supporters whose donations in support of Stranger Songs were received before I recorded the show: Mike Palumbo, Lia Kiessling, Penny from Montreal, Robert Moon, Michael Regenstreif (hey, that's me), Sylvie Barzilay, Barbara Shapiro, Paul & Bev Mills, Arne Langsetmo, Thom Fountain, John Coleman, Bruce White, Neil McLeod, Joanne Hurley, Dennis Brown, Peter Blatherwick, Michael Lord, Keith Snider, Mary Gick and Brian Dubbeldam. Since then, Linda Brewer and Kenneth Turner have been added to the list. I'd love to add your name to the list. Your support is much needed and much appreciated.

Archie Fisher, who died on November First at age 86 from lung cancer, was one of Scotland’s greatest and most influential interpreters of traditional and contemporary folk songs and a great songwriter whose original material was decidedly in the tradition. He was also a folk music radio host for many years on the BBC.

Thanks for such a moving playlist today, Mike. My grandfather fought in the trenches WW!. My father was Signal Corps with high security clearance and was active when computers were first introduced and used computer cards.
