Listening to Stranger Song today I actually flashed back to the first time I heard Leonard's first album. I was babysitting for my English teacher and she had the album in her collection. I had never even heard of Leonard Cohen. I was 15 years old. That record changed my life !!

Thanks Mike. I knew you had to have done other special Leonard shows before I discovered you and your show, but now I have the links to journey back in time to enjoy your selection at different times in your life. Thanks for the gift.

Neil, I got that album in 1968 when I was 14. It remains one of my all-time favorites. And, of course, the Stranger Songs theme is pulled from it.

It is in my Top Five albums of all time. It has never moved out of the Top Five. Say, I just noticed the version of You Want It Darker !! Incredible and gripping version that left me at a complete loss of words to describe it to myself in thought !

I went to see Leonard give a poetry reading at UBC in the spring of 1967. An auditorium full of poetry nerds were surprised to be treated to him playing a guitar and singing. Who knew at that time, before his first album came out, that his poetry would henceforth be mostly in song. My soon to be ex girlfriend, Suzanne, stood me up and missed him singing “her” song. I don’t remember much of those 4 years of studies but have never forgotten that noon hour performance.

Did you pick up a sheet of the Cohen memorial stamp from Canada Post. They are very nice. I almost gifted them twice this year, but just could not part with them. lol..It would be like gifting my Leonard Cohen Live in London cd. I have lost count of how many times I have watched that show!!!!!!

I would have loved to have seen that lunchtime, Ron. The times I saw Leonard perform were in concert halls and arenas.
