Evolution of Electronic Music Production - Part 2 as part of Instagram vs Reality with Amber Long
In this week’s installment of *Mapped Out Radio*, Amber Long takes us on a journey through the history of electronic music and DJing with Part 2 of her Instagram vs Reality series. Have you ever tried beatmatching on vinyl? Or wondered where DJing even began? Amber dives deep into the origins of the craft, sharing fascinating facts and pivotal moments in DJ culture.
Did you know that in 1935, radio commentator Walter Winchell coined the term "Disc Jockey" to describe Martin Block, who played popular music on the airwaves? Or that in 1943, DJ Jimmy Saville launched the world’s first DJ dance party? As the years progressed, the DJing scene exploded—culminating in the creation of twin turntables and iconic clubs like Whiskey a Go Go in France, the first discotheque.
In the '70s, Francis Grasso popularized beatmatching in New York’s Sanctuary Nightclub, while Augustin Martinez in Mexico became the first to mix and edit tracks live. The ‘80s saw the rise of house and techno music, alongside the launch of MTV, changing the landscape of DJ culture forever.
Amber wraps up this week’s show with an epic performance by DJ Battlecat, a 1990 DMC finalist. Tune in for an unforgettable ride through the history of DJing!
2nd part of the show is a recent freestyle Live Mix from Amber Long
