Hi everyone, this evening we'll be looking back and forward to hearing live music in the great outdoors. For free! Come on in to the "Listening Room" (here) and say hi, And as ever, you're welcome to recommend tunes on the theme of music influenced by or played at parks.. We'll do our best to find these and play them for you on a future show.

Hi Chris This song choice may be a bit too ‘mainstream; for CKCU. One song i can remember really liking when I was a little kid—Itchycoo Park

HI Shelley, there's a cover version of Itchycoo Park by the Bevis Frond that is of a more alternative nature. Seldom heard and just the kind of thing that my mate Steve Kirkland would have in his collection, probably.

In 1987 in Andrew Haydon Park my Dad, sister and I saw a jazz band (a friend of my Dad’s was in the band). The group ‘marched’ around the audience before heading on to the stage—that sounded incredible. Speaking of parks, there’s a whole array of musicians I saw in Confederation Park as part of Ottawa’s Jazz Fest.

Sounds great Shelley. And I think the outdoor Jazz Fest gigs at the Astrolab nearby were also free, too. That's where I saw the great Sonny Rollins play a set on my way home freom CKCU one evening, 1985 or 86 probably .
