I'm Talking Here!
Monday March 9th, 2020 with Joshua Robert Bateman and Josh Murray
Hollow at Your Invisible Boy (Audio-Only Broadcast)

This week, the Joshes are reunited to examine all things invisible! First up is James Whale's The Invisible Man (1933), the hosts' favourite of the three films this week. They praise Whale's use of effects and the characterization of Jack Griffin as a weird loser. Then, they dive into Paul Verhoeven's Hollow Man (2000) starring Elisabeth Shue, Kevin Bacon, and Josh Brolin. Again, they love the effects, but find the movie less effective than some of Verhoeven's other Martian and/or terrestrial tales. Finally, the new release on the docket is Leigh Whannel's The Invisible Man (2020), whose plotting and conception can't compete with Elisabeth Moss' work or the potential of the subgenre. Antigone (2019) is at the ByTowne this week and The Lodge (2019) is at the Mayfair! Next week: Thomas Vinterberg's The Celebration (1998) and John Sayles' Lone Star (1996).
