Little Women: This Is the Girl

This week, Josh and Josh are taking the March march, starting with Greta Gerwig's latest film Little Women (2019). While they don't recall just how many feet high said women were, they heap praise on Gerwig, Florence Pugh, Chris Cooper, and co. for a radical, smartly edited, non-chronological and very topical take on Louisa May Alcott's writing and life. Then they flash back to Little Women (1994), Gillian Armstrong's previously somewhat definitive adaptation (of the many that have transpired). While they're less glowing, they agree that it works and get into cutie Christian Bale, girl power speeches, the different endings, and more. With some extra time at the end, they with a happy seventy-fourth birthday to visionary director David Lynch and shout out their favourites of his films, especially Mulholland Drive (2001), Blue Velvet (1986), The Straight Story (1999), and The Elephant Man (1980). There are great movies in theatres this week to check out, including On the Waterfront (1954), Varda by Agnès (2019), and Les Misérables (2019).
