Best Films of the Decade: Part Two
Happy Talking Year! This year's cinematic pre-hype kicks off with some anticipatory talk of this week's release Underwater (2020).
The Joshes react to the weird Golden Globes, mainly with confusion about the surprisingly strong night for Sam Mendes' 1917 (2019 [1917]). But they're happy for Awkwafina, Brad Pitt, Brian Cox, and Taron Egerton anyway.
With top 5s out of the way in last week's lovefest episode, it's now time for some bonus talk about the best in film in the 2010s. This week, it's other personal awards and superlatives: the best in cinematography, animated films, acting performances, musical scores, funniest movies, and the CGI characters who look the most prodigious. The Joshes have a shocking number of picks in common, which was not planned or expected by either. Some of the more underseen choices shouted out are Smashed (2012), The Book of Life (2014), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), The Trip (2011), and The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2013). Listen to find out what aspects of each of them enthralled your hosts and get ace recommendations for what you've missed.
Next week: Gillian Armstrong's Little Women (1994), Greta Gerwig's Little Women (2019), and reactions to the Oscar nominations.
