Uqallagvik

Uqallagvik (pronounced “or-kal-lag-vik”) is a radio program by and for Inuit of Ottawa. It is broadcast primarily in Inuktitut, with some English. Uqallagvik signifies “radio station” (uqallak- means “to speak” and -vik means “place of”, so in literal terms, Uqallagvik means “place to speak”). The station is a place for Inuit of all ages to share stories, discuss issues, and promote Inuktitut in the city. The station features Inuit music, news and public discussions in Inuktitut. It seeks to connect Ottawamiut with their families and friends in the north, and to increase the profile of Inuit among the non-Inuit community in Ottawa.

Uqallagvik is the first radio program in Ottawa by and for Inuit in Inuktitut. It is the second Inuktitut radio program in Southern Canada, after Nipivut in Montreal. Uqallagvik airs every second Wednesday from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
