The year 2014 will mark 100 years since the beginning of World War I. On June 28, 1914, a young Bosnian Serb named Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary , heir to the Hapsburg throne, who was visiting Sarajevo. The assassination eventually led to World War I. This event brings up a number of questions. Were big powers ready for a war? What was the political and social atmosphere at the time? Why did WWI start? To get answers to these questions Monday's Encounter is joined by historian Dr. Srdja Trifkovic.
