Episode 399: DAN MEDLAND & MASRY

Starting out the show with a hot take from BALU & JEFF DOUGLERS studio with one I really really enjoyed called 'I LIKE IT' out soon I'm sure on POZATIV Records. Check out their new and past releases on the bandcamp page: https://pozativ.bandcamp.com/music Then we head into the mix with DAN MEDLAND, who's a formidable force in the house music scene. Performing for almost 30 years, drawing inspiration from the vibrant underground music culture—a place where inclusivity, acceptance, and beats RULE. Having partied at venues in the late '90s, from Montreal’s iconic SONA, ARIA, and (((Stereo))), to Toronto’s raw underground clubs Industry, Joy, and The Guverment, and of course legendary clubs Atomic, Surface, ICON, and Mercury Lounge in his home town Ottawa. Dan is no stranger to the scene. Having apprenticed under the tutelage of Ottawa DJ legends Neill MacLeod, and Joe Juarez, and having performed supporting sets for the likes of Bad Boy Bill, Luke Fair, Stephan Grondin, Palash, Marty McFly, and DJ Heather just to name a few, Dan received a first class education in the art of set building, storytelling, and how to make you shake from your nipples down to your feet as he commands the dance-floor with his HOUSE, TECH, and TRIBAL beats. For those who have experienced Dan behind the decks, and danced alongside him, you know the kind of night that awaits. See you all on the dancefloor this Saturday catch him at the next WHITE RABBIT at CITY AT NIGHT: https://www.facebook.com/events/1068063644267287 Then we head over the Cairo with MASRY, who we came across on our journeys across Egypt this past month. Moulded by years of clubbing during his late teens in Egypt’s city of Sharm El-Sheikh in its heyday, MASRY embodies the essence of genre fluidity in his sets, by leaning into records from those formative nights and weaving textures of acid house, breakbeat and mainstream crowd pleasers. Having toured and performed extensively across the region, MASRY considers some nights to be special markers in his career, such as opening for Dekmantel founder Thomas Martojo in Cairo. He began touring when he landed in Dubai in early 2023 to perform at Hence Night Series and recently performed at MDLBeast’s Soundstorm Festival in Riyadh, in addition to regular performances in Lebanon. His notable debut alongside Lebanese veteran Eli Atala at Ballroom Blitz in Beirut. As he begins to find his footing internationally, MASRY continues to evolve and leave a distinctive mark on the regional landscape.
