Jazz rhythm sections are consistently good. I was most impressed by Pheeroan Aklaff on drums and Fred Hopkins on bass. Henry Threadgill on reeds and flute. New Air live in Montreal. Also, the rhythm section on the Lee Morgan LP The Sidewinder, 1963... Very cool. The Young Holt Unlimited is also consis- tently creative and groovy. In the pocket. Thanks.

Thanks robert. Will take a closer listen to the rhythm sections you mention. And yes, Young-Holt certainly a favourite of mine. They swing and groove in all the right ways for me!

Hi. You can hear the Henry Threadgill live in MTL recording on YouTube. For free. It is very loose and somewhat free jazz. 80s. There are great drummers in jazz. I saw in the Last Of the Blue Devils DVD a drummer from Kansas City called Baby Lovette. For rhythm sections, Horace Silver Quintet in the late 50s, and Cannonball Adderley Quintet, early 60s, are pretty tight and swinging. That music is like breathing fresh air or eating a good meal, with a nice glass of wine. Thanks for what you do.
