Good timing on Herbie. I read this the other day: "Mann's career, in both its questing nature and embrace of various musical styles, parallels that of Miles Davis. Mann championed Brazilian music even before Stan Getz. When Miles was fusing jazz with rock, Mann was fusing it with Memphis soul and Southern rock. He also was an early exponent of world music. But while Miles was usually hailed as a visionary, Mann was dismissed as just a popularizer selling out. It was a bum rap".

Hey Ben, admittedly I've got a bias as flute is one of my fave instruments, but yes, Herbie is more of a heavy weight than he is credited for. Aside from what you noted, combined with the fact that he rarely released fewer than 3 LPs a year from the 50s through the 70s, his music was all over the place. Check out the Herbie Mann Afro Jazz Sextet + Four Trumpets album Common Ground for an example of the word music you mentioned. Lot's going on there, and with him. Thanks for listening and commenting.

First time i hear Electric Mud. Thanks. I saw the movie with Marshall Chess when they did a recording with Chuck D and the original musicians.

Hey robert. It's a pretty wacky LP. Muddy Waters didn't like it at all and I don't think had much say in how it sounded. I don't even think that's him on guitar all the time. It's a real fuzz fest though with plenty of cool tracks.

Pete Cosey on guitar, if i remember correctly. They were just trying to sell records.

Yeah, that's right! Good memory. I had forgotten the player(s). Definitely a "get hip with the kids" album. Seems to work in 2020.

Hi Jas. Certainly a remix. Have not compared the two but thicker and heftier for sure! I hope it respected the original!
