Achim Reichel and Machines, again

This week, all previously unreleased music from the lavish 10-CD box set, "The Art of German Psychedelic".
While recording IV, engineer Conny Plank suggested the band "warm up" at their own pace while he set up the mixing console. Unbeknownst to the band he was recording the whole time. Sometimes levels would change abruptly as he was playing with them. They decided not to release any of the material at the time, but now, why not?

The reissue of Erholung comes with a bonus concert, "Live in Krefeld", recorded from the audience at a show in 1973 (the same year as Erholung).

"The Cologne Concert" captures a radio concert from 1973, with two lengthy tracks totaling almost 80 minutes of music. Here's one of them!

Now some raw echo guitar recordings that Reichel found while preparing the box set. Because his echo guitar technique worked by recording guitar as he played it, it basically auto-archived itself, provided the tapes survived the intervening years...

Finally, the box set contains 2 CDs of "DJ remixes", one from the 90s that Reichel didn't release at the time, and the other from this decade. "Transformation" features music from the full A.R. & Machines, whereas "Virtual Journey" is more focused on Reichel's echo guitar, including some of the material from "14 Pieces".

Keeping up the guitar theme, Les 4 Guitaristes were a four-piece featuring former members of Conventum and others, with four guitarists at one time. Drums were provided by Chris Cutler (of Henry Cow etc.) and Remi Leclerc (Miriodor).

We'll close with a track by Ikarus, the group led by Jochen Petersen, who played woodwinds in A.R. & Machines. WIth Ikarus he plays guitar, sax, flute, clarinet, and also sings. This album came out in 1971 and was reissued on Second Battle in 1995.
