John Coltrane: 85TH Anniversary

He was born on Septemeber 23, 1926 and passed away in his 40th year. Over his brief, yet prolific career, he became a master of jazz, and a defining influence on generations of musicians. The recipient of numerous Down Beat Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2007 he was cited by the Pulitzer Prize Board for his "masterful improvisation, supreme musicianship, and iconic centrality to the history of Jazz".
