Today we’re going to explore the music of a veteran saxophonist who passed away in December, 2010. His contribution to jazz, music education, together with a robust bop style of play, spanning decades, was recognized by the jazz community. This year’s Grammy Award for instrumental jazz performance was bestowed posthumously on this titan of the tenor sax – James Moody. Today I’ll be featuring the album “4B”, and over my next few shows I'll highlight “4A”, and the album “Our Delight”, and other James Moody music. And all this demonstrates how James Moody was a musician shaped by tradition, with a reverence towards his fellow jazz masters and composers. The end result was always tasteful… always beautiful…. always Moody.
