40th Anniversary of Chilean Coup and Military Intervention. Interview with Leonor León and John Foster

Esta semana transmitimos un programa especial para rememorar y analizar los eventos que marcaron el hoy 40 aniversario de la intervención y dictadura militar en Chile. ¿Qué rol tuvo Canadá y los canadienses en esos eventos? ¿Cuáles fueron las experiencias de los refugiados chilenos que lograron ser aceptados en Canadá? Leonor León, exhiliada chilena, activista y defensora de derechos humanos, así como a John W. Foster, quien estuvo involucrado en el proceso de refugio chileno en Canadá, y quien encabezó inicialmente el Comité de Bienvenida de Toronto, así como después el Comité Inter-Iglesias en Derechos Humanos en Latinoamérica (actualmente docente en el Departamento de Ciencias Políticas en Carleton University y en el Programa de Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad de Regina), contaron sus experiencias al respecto. ::::: The program featured a SPECIAL PROGRAM to remember and analyze the 40th anniversary of the Chilean coup and its military dictatorship. What role did Canada and Canadians have on these events? What were the experiences of Chilean refugees who could make it into Canada? Leonor Leon, Chilean exile and human rights worker and activist, as well as to John W. Foster, who was involved in the Chilean refugee process in Canada, and who happened to be the initial chair of the Toronto Welcome Committee and later of the Inter-Church Committee on Human Rights in Latin America (currently an instructor at the Department of Political Science at Carleton University and at the International Studies Program of the University of Regina), talked about these issues.
