Fantastic covers for an amazing song that pounded my young brain in the 60,s ….not so young anymore …

8:21 PM, November 9th, 2024
Chris.
Not so young means more years of listening to music, Eddy!

8:25 PM, November 9th, 2024
Chris Ikonomopoulos.
Thinking my fave so far is Giant Sand’s version.

8:27 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Lina
I am liking this German version a lot but still undecided! And more to come!

Heavy Ben
The Giant Sand version is impressive. They unexpectedly go Latin Jazz style. I like the Casino Music version, too. Nice set of "coversions", not a dud in the bunch.

Sweet deep dive! I think I'll go for the Inga Rumpf!

Hey Heavy B & t_al_z !!

Heavy Lina
I can see why you like those versions Heavy Ben, the two def bring a freshness to the table. Thanks for tuning in!

8:48 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Lina
Thanks t_al-z for tuning into the show and for appreciating these covers, and yes the Inga Rumpf version is my top choice tied with the Italian version!

Love Grace !

8:55 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Ben
I gotta go Grace. Killer band with Sly & Robbie and Wally Badarou!

8:55 PM, November 9th, 2024
Wally
Grace was my favorite

Chris Ikonomopoulos (host)
Hard to deny her version, Wally!

9:11 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Lina
Grace Jones def delivers! Thanks everyone for chiming in!

Wally
I'm going to go with Deborah & The Peurto Ricans - love those vocals & reminds me a bit of The Flying Lizards doing their cover of Money, very unique. The other versions were great also.

9:12 PM, November 9th, 2024
Eddy
Chris, as Frank Zappa once said, the notes have all been played, so most new music is a different version of the last 60 years

9:18 PM, November 9th, 2024
Wally
That's very cool, I didn't know that and had never heard of Deborah & The Peurto Ricans before

9:21 PM, November 9th, 2024
Wally
On a future show you should do covers of Wichita Lineman, I'm sure there are many covers of that song and a favorite is by The Pearlfishers, and of course by SUPER 8 as well.

9:28 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Lina
Thanks everyone for letting us know your fave version of "Respect"-- like that cover by Deborah and The Puerto Ricans too!

9:29 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Ben
Hey Chris and Lina - today's answer is "music that I have heard". Safe to say that we're all in the 10% if not the 1% of musical experience for the general population. I have listened to a few hundred thousand pieces. While there are millions of unexplored tracks, I'd be happy to be limited to what has already passed through these ears. As years go by, old sounds can be new again.

Such good grapevine grooves! New to me! My play again and again is The Slits one!

9:34 PM, November 9th, 2024
Wally
I was thinking you might play The Slits version as it is my favorite version of that song

9:39 PM, November 9th, 2024
t_al_z
That high voice part! Too good

9:40 PM, November 9th, 2024
Heavy Lina
Heavy Ben, totally get the appeal of leaning into what we already know and love. I am changing my answer I think!

Heavy Lina
The Slits’ version of 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine' is such a gem—love how they bring that raw, post-punk energy to the song!

9:41 PM, November 9th, 2024
Wally
I think I would lean towards hearing just new music but with one condition that hearing new cover versions was allowed as I love a good cover as you've probably already figured that we are working on a 10 volume tribute to the Television Personalities 😂

9:43 PM, November 9th, 2024
Wally
Really liking this Dion cover, hadn't heard it before

9:48 PM, November 9th, 2024
Chris Ikonomopoulos (host)
Thar counts as new music Wally!

9:49 PM, November 9th, 2024
