Canada Day message I heard today: “The mountains, the water, the trees, they are our calm, our peace, our healing and our medicine. Away from them, we become lost,” elder Debbie Sampson from the B.C. Secwepemc Nation said to open the teachings. “I have a responsibility to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, and so I have to speak about the things that are happening to Mother Earth … Global warming, clearcut mountains, natural gas, oil wells, mines on the land and under the seas. The contaminants are destroying the airs, the water, the land. The effects to the ecosystem are astronomical.”
