1968 – Mauritius achieved independence from the United Kingdom. Strut and Born Bad have recently unearthed music from 1970s Mauritius.

1917 – Lejzor Szmuel Czyż aka. Leonard Chess (1917-69) was born. The Polish-American was born in Motal, now in Belarus, and founded Chess Records in 1950. The label had many offshoots including Checker, Cadet, and Cadet Concept.
