Electronic Sounds From Canada Part 8 - Mort Garson

That's right. I am the connection. And you'll be hearing from me very soon. I'm going to plug you into Patch Cord Productions. So throw away your kazoo and your harmonica. You're about to enter the 70s, thanks to an electronic mushroom called the Moog synthesizer and a very talented man by the name of Mort Garson. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mort_Garson https://www.vice.com/en/article/8q7e85/mort-garson-essay-plantasia https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2016/09/mort-garson-feature (photo credit Red Bull Music Academy)

The Spathiphyllum is better known as a peace lily, though not a true lily from the family Liliaceae. True lilies are highly toxic (poisonous) to cats and dogs, but the peace lily, spathiphyllum is only mildly toxic to humans and other animals when ingested.

What a riot! So nice to learn about 'our Mort.' And, yes, the Untamed World was a fave of mine, along with Here Come the '70s, et al

Hi Jack, glad to hear. Was neat to discover that Mort did the music for Untamed World and lots more, more than we'll probably ever know in terms of TV spots.

Great program! (didn't mean to imply 'Here Come the '70s' was by Mort, that was Syrinx, another Cdn synth breakthrough) Didn't recognize the Gambit theme though... Whew! What the heck was going on with planet earth in the '60s and '70s? Heavy Friends, delights, week after week. Virtual-begonias to yer doorstep! Thanks!

Right on, Jas. Thanks for tuning in and look forward to your next show in 3 weeks.

Jack - indeed Syrinx and John Mills-Cockell have gotten some play on Heavy Friends. There is something special about late 60s and 70s electronic music and pop culture in general. I don't even mind (most of it) being dated.

Wonderful show! Loved hearing the Untamed World intro and outro with the nice segue into Aquarius and then that follow-up percussive piano piece. Just terrific!
