Burial special

Wander through Burial's discography of deconstructed dance music... https://hyperdub.net/collections/burial /// https://www.discogs.com/artist/306157-Burial Burial's debut to the world was presented by Hyperdub label don Steve Goodman aka Kode 9 (https://kode9.bandcamp.com) on Mary Anne Hobbs' iconic radio show The Breezeblock on BBC1 04/2006 https://www.mixcloud.com/getdarker/kode9-presents-burial-mary-anne-hobbs-breezeblock-bbc-radio-1-04042006/ I was thankful to be able to open for Kode9 just after, on 13/5/2006 at Zoobizarre in MTL for Ghislain Poirier's night 'Bounce Le Gros'. http://poiriersound.com/bounce-le-gros It remains one of the highlights of my DJ life!
'Burial' is the debut studio album by London electronic producer Burial, (who despite all attempts at remaining anoynymous, is now revealed to be William Emmanuel Bevan), was released in 2006 on Kode9's Hyperdub label. The album's sound features a dark, emotive take on UK rave music including 2-step, jungle, and UK garage. As Burial describes the recording process in an interview, he said that he "didn't use a sequencer, because if his drums were timed too perfectly, they would "lose something" and "sound rubbish". Crackles of pirate radio and vinyl, as well as actual recordings of rain and fire, are present on the album, as well as vocal samples that have been described as ghostly.

'Gutted' includes the classic vocal sample of Forest Whitaker declaring, "me and him, we're from different, ancient tribes ... now we're both almost extinct ... sometimes ... you gotta stick with the ancients ways... old school ways... I know you understand me." from the film "Ghost Dog"

RIP Spaceape - one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard. Stephen Samuel Gordon, known as The Spaceape, was a British poet and MC. He is known for his work on the Hyperdub label, and in particular for his frequent collaborations with labelmate Kode9. According to Pitchfork, "[the] Spaceape lent his ten-ton doomsayer croak to dozens of definitive works of music and was positioned as the Linton Kwesi Johnson of the post-7/7, surveillance-state UK." He died on 2 October 2014 at the age of 44, following a battle with cancer. https://www.discogs.com/artist/344779-The-Space-Ape

Now selections from Untrue, Burial's second studio album, released in Nov. 2007. Untrue builds on the sound established by Burial in previous work, drawing on influences from UK garage, ambient, and hardcore music.
