Hi, interesting show thanks. Hope you don't mind me asking if anyone knows why the original silent films had no dialogue audio yet a superimposed musical soundtrack. Or was it an orchestra playing live in the theatre?

Tom Scott had a long and successful career after Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes , including his solo album for Impulse! 'Honeysuckle Breeze' (feat. Emil Richards) and the theme for Starsky and Hutch.

Silent Films
The originals definitely would have had live soundtracks for the audience. Took a while to develop the technology to have an audio strip run along side of the film strip for included sound. Took even longer to get frame accurate synched sound for dialogue. On screen text for dialogue and narration was the work around for a good while.

Thank you very much! Live soundtracks! Visual has always been recorded through different media but audio recording is so revolutionary. For a while I imagined maybe film makers did not want audio to "contaminate" the pure moving picture genre. Once again much appreciated.
