Archie Shepp, Natural Essence, Steve Tibbetts and Marc Anderson, The Paul Bley Synthesizer Show, Fire! with Oren Ambarchi

This week I'll share a handful of tracks from four albums that I picked up over the weekend. I'll start with Archie Shepp, who drops his saxophone and plays the piano on this album. Nat Adderley leads these tracks by Natural Essence, a short-lived jazz funk band. Steve Tibbets and Marc Anderson bring together a 12 string guitar, kalimba, and tape looping to create a weird, folky, ambient jazz fusion album (on the German ECM label). You'll also hear a few from Canadian pianist Paul Bley, who flaunts an ARP synthesizer and RMI electronic piano in the earlier days of electronic experimentation. Finally, I'll play the A-side from Mats Gustafsson's newest release with Oren Ambarchi.
