Kalle Mattson - Youth. Canadian

Folk music is about storytelling, which is something that Kalle Mattson excels at. However, since the release of the Polaris Music Prize nominated Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold (2014) and the JUNO Award nominated EP Avalanche (2015), Mattson has progressed beyond the purely folk tag that has accompanied him thus far and is examining what it means to be a ‘folk-artist’ in 2018. The discovery is Mattson’s new mantra: “folk is dead.”

Long Range Hustle - From Seedlings to Saplings Canadian

If you’re new to a Long Range Hustle show, it only takes a minute to feel how their contagious energy connects with everyone in the room. From a sweat soaked club to a breezy festival stage, Long Range Hustle brings the warm infectious melodies, driving rhythms, and gorgeous harmonies, in spades.

A mix of high school and summer camp counsellor tenures brought the core of this southern Ontario five-piece together - Paul Brogee (vocals, guitar, violin), Jay Foster (vocals, piano), Mike Brogee (bass, vocals), and AJ Fisico (drums, vocals) with Ryan Pritchard (guitar) solidifying the line up in early 2017. Each of the five members come from diverse musical backgrounds, ranging from jazz to rock to classical, but all share a common love for songwriting and performing.

Collective roots-jazz quartet Way North is releasing ‘Fearless and Kind’, their second album! This is music built on connections, both out of necessity - the band lives in three cities - Toronto, Ottawa and New York, but also out of their collective love of connecting music to audiences and connecting the dots between the different roots genres that inform their jazz. This is a community minded band, and they are looking to uplift people with this music. This is jazz you can dance to!
