CKCU's 46th Birthday Announcement & Thank You
Hello I’m Dave Aardvark CKCU’s Program Director… we will return to Sunday Night Mind Melt momentarily… just need to wish you a Happy Sunday turn to Monday and more importantly Happy Birthday CKCU. 46 years ago at the stroke of midnight on Nov. 15th 1975, CKCU-FM began broadcasting as Canada’s first CRTC licensed campus/community radio station at 93.1FM.
From the initial vision, passion and hard work of CKCU’s founders, the Mighty 93 has been a crucial part of the Ottawa/Gatineau region providing independent programming. CKCU has worked to support music, arts, culture, current affairs and the countless and diverse communities in the region for over these 46 years and is going through a transformation period leading up to our 50th Anniversary.
Listeners and supporters are a big part of this equation, and I’d like to sincerely thank everyone who donated to our 2021 Funding Drive Campaign. We haven’t reached our goal quite yet, so if you haven’t please consider doing so now, go to ckcufm.com/pledge.
An extra Special Thanks and recognition to all who have made their way to the station on past birthdays to acknowledge these birthday landmarks especially Janis Lockwood. Janis lead many a CKCU birthday celebration over the years, and will be forever remembered and appreciated.
So here’s to 46 years and many more to come! Please enjoy the song “You Turn Me On I’m A Radio” by Joni Mitchell which was the first song to emanate on our airwaves all those years ago!
