Opening set features Belfast's Van Morrison who formed Them in 1964 before going solo in 1966 at American producer Bert Bern's urging. Kenny McDowell was brought in to replace Morrison on vocals but lack of further success doomed the band

Psychedelic band Eire Apparent (their lone l.p. produced by Jimi Hendrix) was a kind of crossroads of Irish musicians in the late 60's. Henry McCullough (guitar) went on to play with The Grease band and Wings (and many other things), Ernie Graham (guitar, vocals) later formed pub rockers Clancy and retired from music by the early 80's, Mick Cox (guitar, vocals) had played with The End and later formed Magnet, Chris Stewart (bass) worked extensively with Frankie Miller and many others, Steve Jolly (keys) went on to play with Freedom and drummer Davy Lutton went on to play with Heavy Jelly and Marc Bolan.

Troubadour Chris de Burgh was born in Argentina but grew up in Ireland (in his family's castle), The Boomtown Rats were formed in Dublin by Bob Geldof and had a fair degree of late 70's new wave success and Stiff Little Fingers were Ireland's most famous punk export. U2 were formed in 1976 in Dublin , releasing their debut l.p. in 1980 before moving on to huge international success.

Rory Gallagher, armed with his '61 Stratocaster formed Taste in the late 60's before going solo and becoming a blues rock guitar legend. Northern Ireland born Dave Lewis formed Andwellas Dream in the late 60's, releasing the remarkable Love and Poetry in 1969 as well as a few more Andwella l.p.'s and a solo album.
