A hot summer night's worth of Music! CKCU doesn't get much better than this!
Starting out in a pre-alternative, semi-noisy vein.IMHO, Jame's Chance/James white's output never got better than The live performance that was originally released on the ROIR Casette, way back when. Give thanks that much of the ROIR product has been re-issued on vinyl... |
About True Friends David Thomas - More Places Forever - Twin/Tone |
White Cannibal James Chance & The Contortions - White Cannibal - Roir |
The Land Of The Living Nomeansno - Why do They Call Me Mr. Happy? - A/T |
We then take a 10-20 year leap backwards from the music of the 1st set to a more 60's/70's-oriented set. It's a set-up |
At The Station Jackal - Awake - Radioactive |
Da Guadaloop Amon Duul II - Hijack - Atco |
... and I Wish I Were Stoned Caravan - If I could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You - Decca |
We worked ourselves into a 60's-style frenzy to set the stage for a small feature on 'The Cheerful Insanity Of Giles, Giles and Fripp (the core of the original King Crimson Line-up in their late-60's pop guise). No it's not King Crimson, but it deserves a listen as a fun footnote to the origins of the band... as well as being a fun and neat LP in it's own right... |
North Meadow Giles, Giles and Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity Of - Deram |
One in a Million Giles, Giles and Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity Of - Deram |
Elephant Song Giles, Giles and Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity Of - Deram |
Suite #1 Giles, Giles and Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity Of - Deram |
Erudite eyes Giles, Giles and Fripp - The Cheerful Insanity Of - Deram |
Might as well follow up with a lengthy track from a band comprised of the Giles-es after they left King Crimson and Fripp's company - and I choose the song as tribute to the store that sold me the LP! |
Birdman McDonald & Giles - McDonald & Giles - Cotillion |
Into a bit of Classically-influenced prog, rolling into some present-day improv/jam masters! |
Chromo Maniege - Les Porches - Harvest |
Wind Song Jade warrior - Kites - Island |
Pa Gron Kvist Bland Bladen - I Grovenstid - Troonsupstoons |
Optic Chiasm Oresund Music Collective - Inside Your Head - Sulatron |
On finishing up ith 2 great improv/jam bands, it's time to take a look at an unheralded LP by a band without whom this kind of music would not be where it is today. |
Laugh 'til You Cry/Live 'til You Die Can - Flow Motion - Virgin |
Smoke Can - Flow Motion - Virgin |
Flow Motion Can - Flow Motion - Virgin |
Tinme for the headlong charge towards the last cut, time to start getting into that jazz-rock vibe, and Finishing out with a 'free' composition by Robert Wyatt as his contribution to Soft Machine's 'Third' 2xLP... |
Bobberty - Theme From 'Something Else' Gilgamesh - Another Fine Tune You've Got Me Into |
Moon In June Soft Machine - Third |
always superb!
