Phil Ogison Tribute! Catherine Ribeiro +2Bis! Perhaps'Hexagon!
We take the Nightwatch into Tribute-town with a look at a bit of Phil Ogison's work (RIP), and, later on, a set of jazz for departed CKCU-brother Ron Sweetman. Finish off with a full-album-drop of a new LP from Boston band Perhaps!
One day, while searching for people to play with I contacted one Phil Ogison – playing music together was not to be, as he lived in Toronto… but, rather than abandoning the connection, Phil said (more-or-less): ‘Wait! Listen to my music!!” and I was flabbergasted at the quality of the creativity and his guitar-playing. Unfortunately Phil has passed away (in his 70th year). I wish I had a better overview of his entire career, as he had been playing since the early-70's, even being involved in an embryonic version of the Melodic Energy Comission. Farewell, Phil!, we will miss you! |

Now that we're in a more acoustic-psychedelic frame, I managed to find a copy of this long-sought-after LP down at the Record Centre - I have always loved the 3 LPs Catherine Ribeiro did after this with a band called Álpes', but had long wanted to hear this, as it is vaunted as much! |

I had hoped to do a jazz set in honour of the passing of Radio-Brother Ron Sweetman... but there wasn't enough time. Here are a few jazz tracks... but I will do a few more next Nightwatch! Now onto a brand-new LP from a band called 'perhaps'from Boston! |

<3 Thank you so much. Phil was brilliant and had been performing since the 60s. An amazing composer ~ a beautiful painter and writer and the most loving and gorgeous husband ever. Thanks for acknowledging his brilliance and writing about your interactions with him. Much appreciated! Catherine Tammaro subductionCurrent
