AutoRyno!! Gong's 'Shamal'!!

It's a French-Feature night tonight on the Nightwatch! Starting out with feature on a new hard rock/fusion/power Trio AutorYno, and finishing with classic space/psych/fusion band Gong, and their first post-Daevid Allen release (1975), Shamal, and covering lots of non-French ground in between!!
Just heard about this 'new' French band by way of their contribution to John Zorn's 'Book of Angels' (Bands interpreting the Masada songbook...)... and, on looking at their catalogue, find them to be an incredibly talented instrumental Trio. The only thing to do: do a lengthy feature, featuring 3 tracks each from each of their releases - the 1st LP (Pastrami Bagel Social Club) released in 2010, second (Cosmopolitan Traffic) in 2013 and 'Flauros- The Book of Angels, Vol. 29' just in the past few months.

A world-class, visionary Canadian artist has left this world. I have always respected Leonard Cohen, thought his lyrics and songwriting were excellent, etc. etc.... but never doted on him, as I do with others artists. Then on the eve of his passing he releases this incredible gem. Anyone who knows me knows I would love this... so I guess it's time to at least look more closely at his catalogue, eh?

Finishing up with an album-feature from classic French space/psych/fusion band Gong, and their first post-Daevid Allen release (1975), Shamal. As a music lover, the lack of Daevid was distressing... but the LP is very strong, and, speaking as a drummer... Pierre Moerlen was taking the helm and about to re-christen it 'Pierre Moelen's Gong', which is a drummer's dream!
