Another Nightwatch, starting in the heavy/Space-Rock vein, detouring thru the post-rock minefield, taking a rest-stop in an uncharacteristically acoustic territory, hitting the jazz-rock touchstone, and then finishing with a feature on some live tunes from the Stickmen, King Crimson's current stick-players' erstwhile agglomeration.
Starting with an anticipatory shot of Hawkwind - the New LP, 'The Machine Stops', rolls into town next week! As well, we play some tracks by bands that haven't released full-length LPs in far too long: Mahogany Frog (4 Years), and Nomeansno (10 years!!). |
L.S.D Hawkwind - Electric Teepee |
Sadness Runs Deep Hawkwind - Electric Teepee |
Lady Xoc and the Sheild Jaguar Mahogany Frog - DO5 |
Kill Everyone Now Nomeansno - Why Do The Call Me Mr. Happy? |
Had to go post-rock for a bit - I ran accross a couple of LPs that were favourites of mine from the late-80's/early-90's, including a David Thomas (Pere Ubu) solo LP, featuring Chris Cutler (Henry Cow et. al)! |
I gotstagroove Things that Fall Down - Disbelief |
Enthusiastic David Thomas - More Places Forever |
Clearly Invisible Simply Saucer - Half Human/Half Live |
Clearly Invisible Simply Saucer - Saucerland |
I know we doted on Simply Saucer last Nightwatch... but I wanted to play the Old version (recorded in Carleton Place Arena (!!) in 1978), and the redux-version from 2008, back-to-back! The newer version has lost none of the crazy psychedelic fire of the original... |
Land of 1,000 Nights Mahogany Rush - Strange Universe |
Feel Thing Pts 1, 2 &3 If - Double Diamond |
Titicaca (Glastonbury 1989) Gong - Live Sheffield |
Ten Commandments Figgy Duff - After the Tempest |
Marrakech Ghost - Lamarabirabi |
Hit a bit of Acoustic craziness... and then we whiplash back into electric-land with some music from the one-and-only LP from Univeria Zekt, a French band that was comprised of members from Magma, doing music that was 'more populist' than Magma's material.... but it's still challenging. |
Altcheringa Univeria Zekt - The Unnamables |
Clementine Univeria Zekt - The Unnamables |
Sometbing's Cast a Spell Univeria Zekt - The Unnamables |
Superstar / Loxycycle Stomu Yamash'ta's East Wind - One by One |
Finishing up with the some muse from the Stickmen. (From Wikipaedia): "Stick Men is a progressive rock band founded in 2007 by drummer Pat Mastelotto and Stickists Tony Levin and Michael Bernier. Since 2010, the lineup stabilized around Mastelotto, Levin and Markus Reuter. The band was formed as a vehicle for progressive rock music performed almost exclusively with Sticks and drums." Thanks to Bruce McEwen for hipping me to/supplying me with the tracks to bring to you! |
