Pt. 2 of '13th Community Record Show Purchases' - playing a representative clutch of my favourites, plus a few other new and notables, like the new Guapo and locals, The Scattered Clouds! Also remember: the Funding Drive is a-comin' soon! Put away a few pennies for the Mighty 93, if you please! :)
Starting out with the 'difficult' art-rock, something from one of My favourite drummer, Chris Cutler, and his mid-80's project, Cassiber, continuing with another 80's effort from New York no-wave atist, Virgil Moorefiled... |
Dust and Ashes Cassiber - Perfect Worlds |
I Tried to Reach You Cassiber - Perfect Worlds |
Transformations Virgil Moorefield - Transformations |
Vitus Dance Virgil Moorefield - Transformations |
Trick Ladders Transmission 13 - get- effect - trick ladders |
Giant on the Hill Transmission 13 - get- effect - trick ladders |
Finishing off with one of the non-record-show acquisitions, 2 new tracks from Manchester-based experimental artist, Transmission 13. Back into the record-show-haul with a shoegaze(?) post-Slint effort from a few of the Slint members, the 2nd LP from the For Carnation... |
A Tribute To The For Carnation - The For Carnation |
Tales (Live From The Crypt) The For Carnation - The For Carnation |
Fallen Scattered Clouds - The First Empire |
The First Empire Scattered Clouds - The First Empire |
Finishing up that set with something new from one of the finer local releases this year, the debut (I think) from The Scattered Clouds, bought at Birdman the week after the record show. Back to more Record-show picks, getting out of the post-rock-y material and into the Hard-rockin'side of things with a much underrated later-period Alex Harvey LP! |
Back in The Depot Alex Harvey and The New Band - The Mafia Stole My Guitar |
The Whalers (Thar She Blows) Alex Harvey and The New Band - The Mafia Stole My Guitar |
Thru The Milky Way Mahogany Rush - Child of the Novelty |
Chains of (S)Pace Mahogany Rush - Child of the Novelty |
In the thick of the 70's hard-rock with Canadian classic, Mahogany Rush. Despite brickbats, I find their output very strong, creative, great playing (of course), and cool-ly uncommercial, considering the era. Continuing with a great side-long track from ex-Free guitarist and his 2nd (and last) solo effort before his untimely death. After that... into a side of classic Ital-prog, and at the end of the set, a neat South-African-inspired LP from Dollar Brand!! |
Back Street Crawler Kossoff - Back Street Crawler |
Truck of Fire Le Orme - In Concerto |
Cape Town Fringe Dollar Brand - Cape Town Fringe |
Finishing up this edition of the Nightwatch with another Birdman purchase from before the record show... the entire NEW Guapo LP!! Enjoy!! Remember, the Funding Drive is a-comin' soon! Put away a few pennies for the Mighty 93, if you please! :) |
