Went to T.O. last weekend, managed to pick up a few things (a summer cold among them), but the music is what I will pass on to you! I will play a few this week, and finish up in the next Nightwatch.
Starting out with an artist I (surprisingly) have never connected with... but Dr. John's 1st LP made it's way into my hands fairly cheaply, and I'm smitten. |
Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya Dr. John The Night Tripper - Gris-gris |
Croker Courtbullion Dr. John The Night Tripper - Gris-gris |
I Walk on Guilded Splinters Dr. John The Night Tripper - Gris-gris |
Let's hit a bit of General Mayhem, for fun, starting with a different, more current, take on trippy Voodoo Music! |
Run to Your Mama Goat - World Music |
Flowers of Romance Public Image Limited - Flowers of Romance |
Brother Rat Nomeansno - The Day Everything Became Nothing |
Devil in the Drain Henry Kaiser - Devil in the Drain |
While in T.O., I managed to find a copy of this Toronto artist's LP - heard it here at CKCU originally. |
Portugal Rua Rua Glassandro 70 - s/t |
West End Glassandro 70 - s/t |
Back to another Mish-mash set, heading towards some Middle-eastern-sounding motifs. There's Shakti in our future... but to start, a more Celtic sound to get us started! |
Morrison's Jig Rare Air - Na Cabarfeidh |
Magus Third Ear Band - Magus |
Calcutta Raga Embryo - 40 |
Now that we're firmly ensconced in the middle-Easter motif... the next T.O. purchase is Shakti (with John McLaughlin)'s 'Natural Elements' LP. |
Face to Face Shakti - Natural Elements |
The Daffodil and the Eagle Shakti - Natural Elements |
Bridge of Sighs Shakti - Natural Elements |
Get Down and Get Sruti Shakti - Natural Elements |
Back to another 'General Music' set, starting with one of my favourite Canadian New Releases. The Phil Ogison Cut is an appetite-whetter for a feature I will be doing on his work in the coming few Nightwatches. |
Tandem Miriodor - Cobra Fakir |
There are no Chance Meetings Phil Ogison - The Elopement |
Austerity Blues Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything |
We Used to Know Jethro Tull - Nothing is Easy: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 |
OK, The Jethro Tull track is a Toronto purchase that didn't get a feature - maybe I'll play another track from it next Nightwatch. We Finish the evening with a side of music (from a release NOT bought in T.O. - I just wanted to play a bunch of it...)from Swedish band Algarnas Tragaard - they only produced one LP in '71 (which I don't have) and an LP of unreleased tracks 30 years later (which is where these tracks are from)! Enjoy!! |
Takeoff Algarnas Tragaard - Delayed |
Interstellar Cruise Algarnas Tragaard - Delayed |
Almond Raga Algarnas Tragaard - Delayed |
Great show! Always wondered what lay behind the cover of that Algarnas Tragaard album - now I know!
