Guapo's 'History of the Visitation', Fontanelle, Walrus!
3 brand new LPs to feature! Guapo, Fontanelle and Walrus! Only sad part - Turntable 1 was having problems - I finally got the left channel to appear (faintly), and cranked the balance almost all the way to the left. The result was stereo... but the left channel was markedly fuzzy. Sorry, 'bout that....
After an abortive start, with one turntable acting up, we get to an uncharacteristically rockin' start, enthusing about the Deniz Tek show at the Dominion last night, and the upcoming Big Jeesus truck/Mere Humans show at the Rainbow on the 25th. |
400 Blows Demics - Demics |
The Man With The Golden Helmet Radio Birdman - The Essential |
I've Seen Sad Days Pirana - Pirana II |
From Old Austrailian to New Canadian, we work our way out of the Rawk towards more 'prog' territory, aiming to hear some tunes from the new Guapo LP, 'History of the Visitation'! |
Track 1 Pseudo Vista - The Grand Design |
Darius Nero - Soon |
Baroque Mahogany Frog - On Blue |
Now, on to Feature #1 - the New Guapo LP. For those more visually-oriented, it comes with a live performance on DVD, with the entire '5 Suns' suite!! |
The Pilman Radiant Guapo - History of the Visitation |
Tremors From the Future Guapo - History of the Visitation |
Sooon to come, the early-70's fusion-inspired Fontanelle, and a feature on the new LP 'Vitamin F'. To take us there, a re-working of Miles Davis' 'Bitches Brew', replete with lyrics! |
Bitches Brew Nomeansno - One |
Dunes Stomu Yamashta - Raindog |
Having hit the funk/jazz, we take a brief detour - all of Rashanim's material is worthy, from heavy, screaming guitar to pieces like this, beautiful acoustic numbers. The members busy themselves currently in 'Zion80', a band that fuses afrobeat with the compositions of Rabbi Schlomo Carlebach. |
Terumah Rashanim - Masada Rock |
Iceland Spar Land of Kush - Against the Day |
Now, 2 features in a row (because I accidentally started the Rashanim-set too early - oops), starting with a new LP by Fontanelle - formed out of the ashes of Jessamine more than fifteen years ago, this is their first release in a decade, abandoning the synth-and-sequenced sound for a headlong dive into the sound of Mid-70's Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock... and they hit their mark in spades with the help of members of Earth, Sunno)))) and Strategy. |
Watermelon Hands Fontanelle - Vitamin F |
The Adjacent Paradice Fontanelle - Vitamin F |
When The Fire Hits the Forest Fontanelle - Vitamin F |
We finish off the 2 tracks of great improv/space-rock from Norweigan band Walrus, and their debut self-titled rcord, on the Electricity Records Label. |
Trompse III Walrus - Walrus |
Spitzbergen Walrus - Walrus |
