Robert Lavigne meets through the magic of online interconnection with Lisa Scott, Director of Finance, Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council. The Council is made up of eleven member First Nations, who in turn represent some 6,500 members. They talk about the advisory services provided by the Tribal Council to its members and the advance made towards self-governance and economic growth. They don't think we understand the origin and weight of these words. We have reclaimed these words, and stripped away the harm they were intended to carry, the hate and ignorance they thought we didn't notice. When we say Average Savage, you better believe that means that we are the most brave indigenous warriors out there and there's nothing average about us. Our people are survivors by force. We've injected clips of movies, cartoons, and media into our track list to point out how this racist shit is engraved into our minds as kids - how normalized it was for us to hear 'Stupid Indian' and 'Kill the savages'. When we interact with these slurs, we are confronting them, deconstructing them and regurgitating them to create our own impressions that exemplify us as the strong, creative, and intelligent Savages we know ourselves to be. credits released September 22, 2017 N’we Jinan offers a dynamic approach to music education Participants learn about sound recording, music production, songwriting, voice and performance. Within the studios’ residency, original songs are created containing messages that focus on cultural identity, language, struggle, love and self acceptance. The tour also gives participating youth an opportunity to create a music video to support the songs they’ve created. This process allows youth to emerge even more out of their shells and gives space for collaborating, teamwork, encouragement, confidence building and community empowerment.
