Some Dark Themes For Our Times and Some Light in Hour 2 From Rose Cousins and Ken Yates
We open on a dark (sort of) note... partly triggered by the times we are living through and my watching 1999 film The Iron Giant on the weekend. So we delve into songs about apocalyptic themes and nuclear holocaust - some nihilism anyone? But actually this is not nihilism as all of the songwriters are trying to make us aware of the dangers and challenges we face as the human race. And hopefuly inspire us to find ways to do better for ourselves and others.
The second hour explores some positive themes - courtesy of Rose Cousins and Ken Yates who are appearing at the National Arts Centre on Sunday, April 13th. Ultimately we spend time in a vigil by the bed of a dying loved one courtesy of Jane Siberry and wrap up Ask(ing) the Angels for answers courtesy of Patti Smith.
None of this was planned out folks... it's just where the music took me tonight.
