The Wavelength
Monday March 24th, 2025 with Joe Reilly
A Thievery Corporation feature, some hip hop vibes, a set of beautiful empathetic songs about trapped housewives, and finally a look at Alan Sparhawk's solo album and some songs by his band Low

We open with a rave review of the amazing Thievery Corporation show at the Bronson Centre on March 7th and a few pieces by them. That leads into some thoughtful hip hop music - and piece of Kid Koala's amazing mixing while I dealt with a technical issue with my computer. Haha... love live radio. Then it's a short set of several powerful songs from the perspective of disenchanted, struggling housewives from three songwriters (Stephanie Lambring, Lori McKenna and ) who show deep empathy and compassion for their subjects. Finally we wrap up the evening with some new(ish) music from Alan Sparhawk. Late last year, Alan released his first solo album following the death of his wife Mimi Parker, who was his musical partner in the amazing American rock group Low. It's a stunning album on which Alan distorts his vocals on every song, making for a stark collection of dark, dark songs. We also feature a couple of gems by Low. The last song on this evening is from Ottawa band Still Youth. You can see them playing at Club SAW on Friday, March 28th. Thanks for listening tonight and take care out there!

Love T. Thomas. You got a nice shout out in Charlie Angus’ book ‘Dangerous Memories’ when he describes the punk scene in Ottawa in the early 80s. Best
