Tonight a Tribute to Mark Valcour. tic joins Joe Reilly to pay tribute to CKCU stalwart Mark Valcour who sadly passed away quite suddenly on the 7th of January. From 1980 til 1984 he was Production Manager here at CKCU-FM and he remained a vital part of the station producing the program Live Revolutions - a show that featured live music recordings featuring a myriad of artists in a wide range of musical venues. The last episode of Live Revolutions under Mark's production aired on December 25th, 2014 -- You can hear it right here: http://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/106/20300.html. tic and Joe reminisce about Mark and thanks to tic's amazing archiving, we share moments from No Wasted Words a program that was produced by CKCU's production department every week during the 1980s and into the 1990s. The show ran Monday nights at midnight and featured in-house productions of sonic landscapes created by members of the CKCU production staff. Over the years Joe and Mark had many discussions about the merits of some shows... and Mark always defended the creativity and hard work of the production department staffers! Chris White also drops in to share his thoughts about Mark's work on the first Ottawa Folk Festival back in 1994. We all miss Mark. His spirit will always be part of CKCU.

Through our lifetime we are visited by angels. These are Individuals who come into you life at the most opportune time, to help to nurture and to give. Mark, was one of those angel. Mark was a giver..and it begs to complete the other half. Mark was not a taker. Truly an invaluable individual who worked tirelessly to make CKCU sound good. I will miss him for his self-less devotion to excellence and hard work. With love.

Mark Valcour made a huge contribution to CKCU-FM, and he made many friends while doing it. He will be deeply missed. Thank you Joe and tic for this wonderful show in Mark's honour.

I hope that Mark's NWW archive... and in fact, his entire recording archive is housed for posterity. Much of it would have to be digitized, but it's a legacy that deserves to be preserved!
