Fallosophy: A conversation with memoirist Ardra Shephard, and DARC/Qu'Art Ottawa's Big Gay Screening.
About Fallosophy: "A memoir based on columnist, fashion-show TV host, podcaster and MS advocate Ardra Shephard’s award-winning blog, Tripping on Air. Twenty-three-year-old Ardra Shephard is sleeping with the wrong guy, living in a crappy apartment, and spending money she doesn’t have on designer shoes, boozy brunches and weekends in NYC. She hates her office job, but it pays for the lessons she needs to make it as an opera singer. She isn’t thrilled about her current situation, but she isn’t panicked. She knows she’s got time! Making mistakes while you figure stuff out is what your twenties are all about. But then when a doctor tells Ardra she has MS, those two letters split her life into a Before and After."
DARC’s Big Gay Screening
June 4, 2025
6 PM EST
Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) is excited to present our annual Big Gay Screening in partnership with Qu’ART! Glenn Nuotio, Tatum Thompson, and Karolina Krym will join us to talk about the event and about their films:
SEVEN MINUTES IN THE CLOSET - The year is 1997 and the graduating class of Smitty Crest High School is celebrating with a game of seven minutes in heaven. After being paired together, teens Ryan and Ian begin to question each other’s intentions in the closet. Once they both come to the realization that neither wants to kiss the other, they use humour and 90’s nostalgia to get to the bottom of each other’s sexualities.
PUT ON SOMETHING DANCE-Y - Mia wakes up one morning discovering that she is gay, so she decides to tell her boyfriend, close friends, and family about her sexual orientation through a coming-out party that she throws at her home.
Heron so Blue Audrey Saparno - Heron so Blue ![]() ![]() |
New music, out today. Audrey sends along a note about the song: "Heron So Blue is a song about the yearning to be free from social pressures and judgement inspired by the Blue Heron as it was seen flying elegantly over the Rideau river where I often paddle. It was produced with Jim Bryson/Fixed Hinge Studio in Stittsville and features Ottawa locals Ajmal Saparno on saxophone and Nesia and Nadhirah Saparno on backing vocals (yes, my nephew and nieces)." Also, Audrey is one of the three panelists this Friday for The Feminist Conversations at Happy Goat on Hopewell and Bank, starting at 7pm: https://www.thefeministconversations.com/event-details-registration/asian-stories-of-creativity-leadership-and-belonging |
