Joys And Splendors is a three-episode audio drama set in the Ottawa of an uneasy near-future, following the cat-and-mouse political intrigue of a soldier and a spy attempting to survive in a Canada devastated by war and greed. Through the eyes of these two sides of one coin, the story asks: do some deserve a nice life, or do all deserve a good life? Joys And Splendors was written by Kate Werneburg and directed by Mary Ellis. It stars Maryse Fernandes as "Nina" and Ben Sanders as "Patrick". The sound designer is Michael Wanless, and the Associate Producer is JR Williams. Joys And Splendors is produced by Winterbird Arts and presented by TACTICS Media Group. VDP aims to give independent dancers a space to explore choreography and expression. The project enables dancers to workshop new choreographic works, to think critically about existing dance structures and institutions, and to train and perform on stage or in multimedia productions. Voices Dance Project is excited to present The VDP Dance Film Screening: a collection of screendance from Ottawa filmmakers and beyond. The screening includes 7 dance films from a variety of filmmakers from our National Capital region and beyond. Films range between 4 -18 minutes using dance as the primary means of storytelling. Several of the films have been screened in international film festivals but are debuting in Ottawa. Total runtime is 82 minutes. All profits from the screening goes directly to the filmmakers whose work is being presented. The VDP Dance Film Screening will take place on November 18th, 2023 at the Mayfair Theatre (1074 Bank St) in Ottawa, ON. The theatre doors will open at 2:30pm, and the screening will begin promptly at 3:00pm. Tickets are $15 online via Eventbrite (linked below) or $18 cash at the door. All profits from the screening will go directly to the filmmakers whose work is being presented.
