World premiere: Dynergetics at Winterlude
Friday, February 4 - 8:15 p.m. SHARP The performance will last approximately 10 minutes. Free World premiere of "Dynergetics" for fire, ice, gongs, and drums Part of the opening ceremonies of Winterlude 2011 Jesse Stewart explains "Dynergetics": "Some of you may recall that I premiered a new piece titled "Glacialis" for musical instruments made of ice at Winterlude last year. This year, the Winterlude organizers asked me to develop something inspired by the principles of "yin and yang" in Chinese philosophy. The resulting piece, "Dynergetics," will be performed by me and percussionist Johannes Welsch at the opening Winterlude ceremonies at the Museum of Civilization. The 10-minute performance will feature gongs, ice marimbas, pyrophones, and two drum sets." And OJS advises you to dress warmly, with mitts, hats, and well-insulated coats, especially if you plan to stay for the rest of the opening ceremonies.
