Billions of people on practically every continent follow SOUKOUS artists with tremendous admiration. This mix is tonic for those out there that are beginning to suffer this winter. We have mixed in some ZOUK, COMPAS and HIGHLIFE.
| KANDA BONGO MAN
KANDA BONGO MAN is a Congolese SOUKOUS singer and musician who started as the singer for ORCHESTRA BELLE MAMBO in the early 1970, developing a sound influenced by the late TABU LEY. As a solo artist in the late 1970's he started to incorporate elements of ZOUK. Many sources identify him for the structural changes he implemented to SOUKOUS music. He revolutionized soukous by encouraging guitar solos after every verse and even sometimes at the beginning of the song. His variation of SOUKOUS gave birth to the 'kwassa kwassa' dance rhythm where the hips move back and forth while the hands move to follow the hips. KANDA BONGO MAN shows featured many incredible musicians that later moved on to start their own solo careers like DIBLO DIBALA. KANDO BANGO MAN still tours in Europe and the Americas. |

| TABOU COMBO
TABOU COMBO, or TABOU COMBO SUPERSTARS is Haiti’s most famous group. Together for over 30 years, they have toured worldwide and are celebrated for promoting KOMPA or COMPAS the popular Haitian dance rhythm sung in French, English, Spanish and Creole. They started in the late 1960's in Haiti where they formed a band and went on the road, playing live all over the island and winning the Radio Haiti award for ‘Best Musical Group of the Year (1969). They moved to Brooklyn in 1970, playing their first New York show in December 1970 – the beginning of a long international career. Tabou Combo’s music is aimed squarely at the discotheque often mixing Haitian MERINGUE, RARA (vodoun percussion) with KOMPA and elements of Brazilian music, SOUKOUS, FUNK and AMERICAN DISCO. They have inspired dozens of other COMPAS bands. Many sources credit them as the authentic creators of ZOUK. |

| DIBLO
Known as "Machine Gun", Diblo Dibala was a vital part of Kanda Bongo Man's lineup on several albums, including classics like "Kwasa Kwasa" and "Amour Fou". Diblo Dibala is one of the best guitarists in the whole world. With his band LOKETOS, he released an album called AMOUR ET SOUVENIR (LP) which featured the song "Super K". It was one of the best disco recordings of all time. It's contagious energy and flow seemed to have organic characteristics. The arousing vocals of the LOKETO group just kept promoting the exhilaration. |
