"The French Touch" (Deuxième Partie)

These recordings were recorded in the late 1990's and early 2000's and were celebrated by many sources as fresh DISCO music. While some sources consider this music to be part of EURODISCO, many other sources connect this music to the FRENCH HOUSE sound of artists like BOB SINCLAR, SHAZZ, MARTIN SOLVEIG, CASSIUS, STARDUST, SAINT GERMAIN, and MOTORBASS. We are featuring some of those FRENCH HOUSE recordings including some tracks that are considered to be by some sources as DISCO HOUSE, EURO DANCE, POP or NUDISCO tracks. Arguments about these selections and those featured in the first episode of this special continue!
SHAZZ

SHAZZ is the French producer DIDIER DELESALLE who released several successful FRENCH HOUSE records on FNAC Music Dance Division and F Communications labels. He also released various highly successful AURORA BOREALIS records that have also been celebrated as amazing FRENCH HOUSE.

SHAZZ - RESPECT FOR FRANCE (CD) - FNAC MUSIC DANCE DIVISION
SAINT GERMAIN

LUDOVIC NAVARRE chose a stage name based on Saint Germain, a character from the 18th century in France that evidently claimed to have lived over 200 years. SAINT GERMAIN records were magnificent FRENCH HOUSE tracks that millions all over the world couldn't get enough of. Many sources identify SAINT GERMAIN as the essential source of FRENCH HOUSE. Other sources suggest that SAINT GERMAIN is a good source of ACID JAZZ, NU JAZZ or JAZZ HOUSE. For so many people in various parts of the planet it is the music of SAINT GERMAIAN that is the essential 'French Touch' sound.

MARTIN SOLVEIG

MARTIN LAURENT PICANDET took the stage name MARTIN SOLVEIG as a tribute to the late French actress SOLVEIG DOMMARTIN. Since in the 1990's MARTIN SOLVEIG has been presenting the radio show 'C'EST LA VIE' through numerous sources online. That show has and continues to inspire DJ'S, producers and artists! His FRENCH HOUSE recordings are a far cry from his ELECTRO and POP hits in the twenty-first century.

MOTORBASS

MOTORBASS is the duo of ETIENNE DE CRÉCY and the late PHILLIPPE CERBONESCHI.
ETIENNE DE CRÉCY was featured on the first episode of his special with more than six tracks presented. He has produced some amazing DISCO tracks.
PHILLIPPE CERBONESCHI was usually known as PHILIPPE ZDAR. He owned the Motorbass studio in Paris and has been identified by many sources as "a key figure of the 'French Touch'" Apart from his MOTORBASS work with ETIENNE DE CRÉCY, PHILLIPPE recorded FRENCH HOUSE material in the group CASSIUS, and also was a member of the wildly popular LA FUNK MOB - the TRIPHOP supergroup. Like THE MIGHTY BOP, LA FUNK MOB brought the 'French Touch' feel into the ACID JAZZ/TRIPHOP market!
MOTORBASS would release an album in 1996 that has been hailed by many sources as one of the best, (if not the best) HOUSE MUSIC albums ever recorded. On two records, their "Pansoul" album had it's own mysterious feel and atmosphere. It was a conceptual bath of filtered HOUSE than continued to pull the listener and dancer into an ominous MOTORBASS zone. It would be wonderful to play the whole album in it's entirety. Maybe on another show.

DAFT PUNK

DAFT PUNK was a duo formed in 1993 in Paris including THOMAS BANGALTER and GUY-MANUEL DE HOMEM-CHRISTO. As part of the FRENCH HOUSE movement, they craft-fully combined HOUSE MUSIC with FUNK, DISCO, TECHNO, ROCK and ELECTRO. They are regarded by many sources as one of the most influential acts. Their popularity just kept spreading throughout the world with several successful albums. Before eventually breaking up 2021, DAFT PUNK would release one last album in 2013 called "Random Access Memories" that became extremely successful winning various awards including 3 Grammys in the United States. One of the most spectacular tracks from that album featured GIORGIO MORODER. In the song "Giorgio By Moroder" the master verbally reveals bits of his legendary past, a most amazing monologue introduction! GIORGIO MORODER has enjoyed a surge in his popularity since his appearance on "Random Access Memories".

BOB SINCLAR

CHRISTOPHE LE FRIANT is the spectacular BOB SINCLAR! According to the disgogs.com website:
"Chris 'Le French Kiss' got the name Bob Sinclar from a French spy movie ("Le Magnifique" directed by Philippe de Broca) and first adopted, to a certain extent, the attitude portrayed by the character in the film."
BOB SINCLAR owns 'Yellow Productions" which has been identified as one of the most important record labels of the "French Touch". Having released 12 albums and over 100 singles, BOB SINCLAR has brought his unique taste of FRENCH HOUSE into discos throughout the world. He also was a member of THE MIGHTY BOP and did various productions and mixes for the AFRICANISM series. BOB SINCLAR has worked with an incredible selection of artists like IAN POOLEY. JAMIROQUAI, SNOOP DOGG, DIMITRI FFOM PARIS, AXWELL, MOBY, MADONNA, FUSED, LEE A GENESIS, EDDIE AMADOR, SHABBA RANKS and GARY PINE from THE WAILERS. We are featuring some of the collaborations of particular note:
In 2012 BOB SINCLAR revitalized the late RAFFAELLA CARRA's 1976 international hit "A Far L'Amore Comincia Tu". BOB SINCLAR gave the classic a warm 'French Touch' feel without compromising the suggestiveness of the original recording. We suggest checking out the video on you tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeWYXKWBwm0
In 2001 BOB SINCLAR got together with CERRONE to remake many EURODISCO classics like "Love In C Minor", "Give Me Love" and "Look For Love" BOB SINCLAR's mix of "Look For Love" has particularly spectacular. CERRONE had the album released on his legendary Malligator label.
Some of hs very successful work with AFRICANISM, STEVE EDWARDS and GARY PIN from THE WAILERS is also featured.

Niall
The way French musical styles keep influencing each other, then crossing over, then launching something new, then adding touches of French diaspora and French colonies' members going to the Hexagon... there _is_ something to The French Touch.
