EVELYN THOMAS (August 22, 1953 – July 21. 2024)
Ellen Lucille "EVELYN" THOMAS was an American SOUL and DISCO singer from Chicago, Illinois. Because of her massive international success "High Energy" in 1984 she was often called 'the Queen of HI-NRG'. She was also known for the hits "Masquerade", "Standing at the Crossroads", "Reflections", and "Weak Spot", "Doomsday" and "Love's Not Just An Illusion". The three last previously mentioned songs were successful NORTHERN SOUL and BRITISH DISCO sensations. Although she recorded great AMERICAN DISCO material for the California based labels CASABLANCA and A.V.I. in the 1970's, she really became extremely popular in the 1980's with songs recorded in the HI-NRG genre for British labels like RECORD SHACK and NIGHTMARE. The unforgettable example is "High Energy" which some sources have suggested to have inspired the whole HI-NRG sound,

I was listening from the garden when I heard a familiar voice singing. It was not until I cam in to give you greetings that I read of the passing of Evelyn Thomas. Hard to believe this was not online or on media feeds. Good of you to do this tribute, Elorious so people will hear just how prevalent this voice was in the industry. Maay she rest in peace. She has left us some wonderful memories and music. This really takes me back to some great times, my friend!!! Thanks, E. !!!
