Differing schools of thought about the authenticity of claims that FELA KUTI invented AFROBEAT. Some adamantly insist that Nigerian PSYCHEDELIC FUNK groups like THE HYGRADES created it in the late 1960's and the very early 1970's.
Others suggest that GERALDO PINO was one of the original creators. Evidently, he sure had a profound effect on FELA KUTI.
Some say it all started with AFRO-JERK musical experiments of MANU DIBANGO and LES RY-CO JAZZ in the late 1960's.
None of these opinions or theories take anything away from the immense musical contribution of FELA KUTI. Dozens of AFROBEAT groups from around the world, like the ANTIBALAS' AFROBEAT ORCHESTRA have been inspired by the music of FELA KUTI and TONY ALLEN!
