EMILY BRISK 5 - "chilling"* (repeat broadcast) May 26th, 2018

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND WE PRESENT THE COMPLETE "EMILY BRISK" SERIES - ONE AFTER THE OTHER! REDISCOVER OR READ FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS STRANGE SCIENCE FICTION TALE --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- link to original show for listening to this 'on demand': https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/131/36889.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vacationing, Emily is spending a week at the Top Mast Resort in Cape Cod. Folks at the inn insist that there's all sorts of things to do and places to go to while she's at Cape Cod. Emily just wants to chill, by the ocean. She has spent her first full day sitting on a comfortable chair near the water. Most of the time all that she can hear are the waves. It reminds her of that first day on that 'private island'. Cape Cod is just a lot busier. She stares into the waves dancing into the horizon as she did on that mysterious island. There was something magical about the ocean that first day. However happy she has been to be back in her life in Boston and close to Nancy, her sister; that mysterious island has left an indelible mark on Emily's psyche: It was all very real and Emily knows that in every bone in her body! The events that occurred there and in that alternative New York really happened. Charmaine is very real! What keeps bothering Emily is the mystery of it all: Why did she end up on some island after putting a dress on in a change room? Where is this radio from? How did the radio initially get to the island? How did it come back? Why did this all happen to her? Emily was apprehensive that she was going to get sucked back into it all. Emily thinks about Charmaine very often. She can still remember Charmaine's laughter and curiosity. At times she swears that she has heard her voice. Not only do those initials that Charmaine carved on the back of the radio survive in this world. Emily's memory of Charmaine is like a living organism in her mind that won't go away. She keeps finding herself worrying about Charmaine. The wondering's centered around the possibility that Charmaine might have gotten in trouble over talking to Emily too much: Was there some kind of massive investigation that followed Emily's departure? Do they think that Charmaine is a spy? Emily keeps having miniature panic attacks about certain possibilities. The more she pondered her memories of those events the greater she feels the gravity of her unending predicament. She feels so terribly alone in fleeting moments of emotional weakness. There is no place where she can talk about what happened. She has only told the truth to Nancy and Tom. Tom accepted it all immediately while Nancy admitted that she thought it all to be too fantastic. Nancy never said that she didn't believe her story. In Emily's heart of hearts she really knew that Nancy didn't accept it all. Nancy had unsuccessfully tried to convince her to see some kind of counsellor. Emily knows that things between her and her sister might never be quite the same. A very relaxed African-American gentlemen slowly walked by and greeted Emily. " You O.K. miss? You don't have to answer. Keep enjoying the ocean. It is special!" Emily agreed as she thought of her experiences on that island and introduced herself. The gentlemen stopped briefly to say, "It is nice to meet you Emily Brisk! I am Arthur Simms. You keep enjoying the ocean!" As the man slowly walks away, Emily relaxes more, staring into the ocean. She has never had as much of an awe and respect for the seemingly endless majesty of it all. She is curious about the timelessness and massive spiritual oneness of the ocean: Is this the very same water that the other America sees also? Is the ocean some kind to connection to different worlds? It is all so alive and powerful. In fleeting moments it seems to consume her.
