una breve historia: TANGO in DISCO + ¡TANGOELECTRONICO! & "neotango"
Tango was never considered to be part of the disco experience, apart from the odd dance contest in Italian discotecas. Tango was too rich and varied. In Europe and North America most Tango records were used for ballroom dancing. This episode of The Groove explores some early experimentation with Tango in British Disco and Eurodisco before jumping into the current century where the Paris based Gotan Project changed everything. Bands featured on this show come from Argentina, Paraguay, France and Norway. Along with the Gotan Project, they combine Tango with current variations of disco genres like Hip Hop, Chill/Ambient, Triphop, Elektro, Cumbia, House Music and Nudisco. My difficulty with the term 'neotango' is that it also includes the combining of tango with rock or jazz. What has been so amazing about the whole success and influence of Gotan Project is how it has brought the depth and musical beauty and intensity of Tango to discotheques around the world!

I read the highlights for this show and I just had to express disappointment that I won't be able to hear it live as I'm going to a wedding in Montreal. I love the Gotan Project. I even saw them appear live in Paris and I they were amazing!!! Good choice for a show and I will hear it later through the ondemand system.
