RETURNING TO THE COSMOS... RETOUR AU COSMOS.... TORNANDO AL COSMO.... (SPACE/EURODISCO/AMERICAN DISCO/ELECTRONIC DISCO)

The title of this show is repeated three times. Initially it is in English, then French and finally Italian. These, more than any other languages, are the tongues of the Space movement that rose in world popularity in the early 1970's and raged on until the mid 1980's. Many Europeans might argue that Space is still big especially in France and Germany. That is not a point I am prepared to argue. This show is all about the fun that Space can offer. The great names of the Space movement are mostly just studio groups in the greatest tradition of Disco like The Savers, Space, Arpadys, Final Offspring, Herman's Rocket, The Immortals, Kebekelektrik, and Space Art. Their music included the first unique electronic genre comparable to Techno, Dubstep or the different styles of Electro. Yet there were plenty of quasi-organic Space acts; the most popular were Les Rockets, the Italo-Franco supergroup that combined Heavy Metal with synthesizer music. Completely hairless and painted in silver, their legendary live performances were spectacular sound and lazer light shows that more conventional Rock groups would later emulate. I'm going to fit in most of these acts including many American Disco and Eurodisco artists that released highly popular Space recordings. The album and 12" single covers of Space music offered spectacular artwork, photography and cool liner notes. A classic example was the Final Offspring LP "THE DESTRUCTION OF MUNDHORA" which included notes like.. THE DESTRUCTION OF MUNDHORA: "MUNDHORA, a planet in the seventh galaxy was the sister planet of old EARTH, green and lush, with a tropical climate. Her people differed from earthlings only by their exceptionnal size and their hair of a bluish cast. For a long time, the paradise was coveted by KHOR, king of the sunless planet, and the people of Mundhora were terrorized by Knor's invincible robot forces, the only creatures able to exit in the their frozen hell...."
